Education Technology Services (ETS), an educational support unit of Information Technology Services, is searching for a qualified candidate to serve as an Instructional Designer at Penn State Schuylkill to assist faculty with the appropriate integration of technology into teaching, learning, and research activities. This person will help faculty learn to select and use a variety of technologies such as the course management system, blogs, wikis, Google Documents, iTunesU, YouTube, and other tools and services into their courses in a way that promotes sound pedagogical practices. This person will participate in a variety of design teams and special research projects, including assisting Penn State Schuylkill administration and faculty in development of new online, blended, and hybrid courses as well as multi-campus courses and programs. He/she will also serve as a referral to other instructional resources within the Penn State system. As part of ETS, the Instructional Designer will participate in a state-wide learning design network and will be expected to bring campus issues to the attention of ETS, as well as bring new University-wide resources to the attention of Schuylkill personnel. In addition, this Instructional Designer will work with Media Commons staff to coordinate consultations, training sessions, and use of the Media Commons facility and equipment. This job will be filled as a level 2 or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's education and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in instructional systems, learning design, adult education, or related field experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Candidates should be knowledgeable about instructional pedagogy in online, blended, and hybrid course delivery environments, be able to create examples of educational applications of a technology in various disciplines, create faculty development sessions, and meet development and delivery deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication and teamwork skills are required. An ideal candidate would feel passionate about education, be curious about new technologies, have an eye for the art and science of instructional design, be able to research new tools and pedagogical practices, and be willing to share what they learn in an open manner.
