The Classroom and Lab Computing group within ITS Teaching and Learning with Technology is seeking an individual with a broad range of skills and experience to help ensure proper operation of and manage servers, support central client management systems, and develop software systems in support of technology classrooms, student computing in labs, client management, and other services offered by CLC. CLC's management systems and infrastructures currently encompass over 7,000 computers in 950 rooms at 22 Penn State locations. These and some 13,000 other computers are maintained with a central client management system used by numerous IT support groups in a distributed, cooperative model. This job will be key in supporting this environment and other critical services. This job will be filled as a level 2 or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's education and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The successful candidate will have demonstrated competence in a wide range of technologies such as: client and server management systems, network design and management, Windows Server OS's, Active Directory and Group Policy, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Terminal Server planning and administration, Windows Failover clustering, VMware clustering, and SAN systems. Strong problem determination and resolution skills must be demonstrated. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Software development experience for automating system management processes using scripting and .NET is a plus.
